INCENDIARISTS AT TEMUKA.
PUBLIC INQUIRY HELD. [BY TELEGRAPH. —rRESS ASSOCIATION.] Timart:, Monday. Firks have been so numerous at Temuka of late, and the surrounding circumstances so suspicious, that a public inquiry was held there yesterday by Mr. V. S. Day, S.M. A number of witnesses were heard, and one, a young man, admitted that he and two others had arranged late one night to set fire to a fence and then ring the firebell. This was carried out, and at the same time a wooden building not far from the fence was also destroyed by fire. The witness, who is a member of the Temuka Fire Brigade, said he had nothing to do with any other fire. A prosecution is to follow. Mr. J. T. Ivey lost the valuable Clydesdale stallion Baron Downs by the burning of his stable at midnight. The animal was insured for £100, but was worth much more.
