FALL DOWN MINE SHAFT.

MINER SUCCUMBS TO INJURIES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Monday. The miner Charles Edward C'avanagh, who sustained serious injuries to his back through falling down a shaft in the Waihi mine in October last, died last night at the Waihi Hospital, of which he had been an inmate since the accident. An inquest was opened this morning and adjourned after the evidence of identification had been given. Cavanagh was quite a young man and leaves a wife and four little children. The Miners' Union have issued a notice to the effect that all members of the union working in the Waihi mine are required to cease work at 12 p.m. to-night, resuming at 12 to-morrow night, and attend the funeral.
