KILLED IN A COLLIERY.

HEROIC RESCUE ATTEMPTS.

By Telegraph Press Association.—Copyright. (Received September 27, 10 p.m.)

Sydney, September 27. The roof of a tunnel collapsed in the Stanford thy Colliery, at Maitland, to-day, burying Richard Evans. His mates started digging him out, and he was almost rescued alive when another fall occurred, and buried two more men. The digging continued, and the latter two were rescued badly injured.

Several further falls took place, and Evans, when reached, was found to be dead. The miners displayed heroism, digging in imminent danger through additional falls.
