Captain Potter, of the "A" squadron First Auckland Mounted Rifles, left by the Maheno on Monday evening, to take part in the shooting competitions to be held at- Sydney and Melbourne.

The range time-table and officers for duty for the month of October are as follows Ist, 500 yds and 600 yds, Lieutenant Atkinson; Bth, 200 yds and 500 yds, Captain Shera; 15th, 600 yds and 700 yds, Lieutenant Mcintosh; 22nd, 200 yds and ,300 yds, Lieutenant Kretschmar; 29th, ■?00yds, 500 yds, and 600 yds, Lieutenant Sayson.

The Knvvett Shield Committee of the No. 1 Company A.G.A.V., requests all men who have net had their photograph taken for the same to do so at once, as they are desirous of making the presentation by Labour Day. 'Die company will be formed into permanent sections for camp on Friday next.

The Auckland Mounted Rifles are in a good position this year as regards shooting. Trophies have been promised by a number of the .business firms of Auckland. The members have been divided into two classes in order to give all the young and inexperienced shots a chance. The season will open on Saturday, when the "A" class will fire for a trophy presented by the New Zealand Herald, and the " B class for a trophy presented by Smith and Caughey, Ltd.

The Dominion Day parades, cadets in the afternoon and garrison troops in the evening, were highly satisfactory from all points of view. The cadets paraded at the Domain, and made a good showing, many complimentary things being said of the 'bearing and marching of the youths. The garrison parade was very largely attended. and after inspection by Lieut.Colonel W. D. Holgate marched out through the streets, which were lined with civilians. The strength of the territorials made a deep impression on many of the onlookers. Judging by the reports to hand, the parades in all parts of the district were good.

The shooting programme of the Auckland Mounted Rifles for the month of October is as follows:—October 1: "A" class, New* Zeiland Herald's trophy (first stage) "B" class, Smith and Caughey's trophy (first stage). October 8: "A"""class, Auckland Star's trophy (first stage) * "13" class, Smith and Caughey's trophy (final stage). October 15: "A" class,"New Zealand Herald's trophy (final stage): "B " class, Aggregate trophy. October 29: "A" class, Auckland Star's trophy (final stage); "B' class, Mr. Thos. Peacock's trophy. A gold medal presented by Mr. Prince will be given to the highest aggregate scorer in the " A " class for the month. A medal presented by Messrs. Abdallah and Cordes, will be given for the highest aggregate 6corer in the "B" class for the month.

WAIKATO M.R. V. CIVILIANS.

A match took place on the Cambridge i-ange on Saturday (writes our correspondent) between civilians of the district and the members of No. 5 \vaikato Mounted Rifles.
