CANON POLLOCK.

London, September 11. The death occurred yesterday of Canon Herbert Pollock, one of the forerunners of the Anglican Mission of Help, now visiting New Zealand.
The news of the death of Canon Pollock has a pathetic interest to New Zea landers, as ho was one of the two forerunners of the present Anglican General Mission. Canon Pollock, together with the Rev. Kennedy, arrived in New Zealand last February and spent several months in making arrangements for the mission. On his return to England Canon Pollock became seriously indisposed, and it is stated that an operation was decided upon, but tho rev. gentleman was in such a weak state of health that it could not be performed. Canon of Rochester since 1892. he was born in London in 1852, being the eldest son of the Hon. Charles Edward Pollock, Baron of the Exchequer. He was educated at Repton and Trinity College, Cambridge, and was admitted as a barrister of the Inner Temple in 1877. He was ordained deacon in 1883, and in 1886 was appointed vicar of St. Leonards, Newark, which position he held until 1890, when he was appointed rector of West Hackney.
