SUCCESS OF PIAKO DRAINAGE.
WHAT IT DEPENDS UPON
[BY TELEGRAPH. —SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.]
Welli.votox, Friday. SrKAKiN'G in the House of Representatives to-night. Mr. W. F. Massey (Leader ot the Opposition) said that the settlers who had taken up land on the Hauraki Plains, which were now being drained, had to pay a very serious rent. The success or non-succees of the settlement would depend on whether the Government gave effect to the recommendations of the Ohinemuri Silting Commission. While these rivers continued to flood the settlers on the Hauraki Plains could not be successful. He trusted that the proposals of the Commissioners would bo embodied in legislation at once.
