NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL. [BY TELKGRAI'H. —PRKSS ASSOCIATION.] • CHRiSTCiirRCH, Friday. At a meeting of the committee of the New Zealand' Boxing Council correspondence was received from the Hawke's Bay centre, stating that the ; application of the Napier - Association for affiliation would receive consideration at next meeting ».f the centre, also that an association had Iweii 'formed at Waipukurau to which affiliation was granted. The secretary reported the steps ho. had taken to carry out the decision of the council with respect to Mayze'3 suspension by the Otago Association. Mayze had informed him that he would communicate direct with the Otago Association on the matter. The secretary had placed the position before the Otago Association, er.d had stated that the council would expect to hear from the association beforo taking action. BURNS 'V. LANG. In referring to training operations for the contest bc«p«n Bums and Lang for the Australia)! Sampionship, which takes place on Easter Monday, tho Referee says: — "With Tommy Burnes training has not gone on anything liko as smoothly as with his prospective adversary. Up to the sth things could hardly have been better, and the whole Burns camp was on excellent terms with fortune; but Tommy got so much out of sorts 011 the Monday following (.hat he decided to do no work. The _ sickness :became worse next day, wheij his whole system was deranged. A sun bath of some hours' duration effected a little improvement,' but the trouble asserted itself again, and all tho time Tommy could not be persuaded to seo a medical man. 'I'll shake it off directly,' he would say, when urged to consult a. doctor. :An -hour in the cvmnasiuin on Thursday afternoon , did not improve matters, and on "Friday Dr. Maitland 'satisfied himself, after a chat with the great boxer, that Tommy had poisoned his ,system eating cucumbers. Burns was very fond of the succulent vegetable mentioned, and would have" it morning, noon, and night, •and between meals • occasionally. Headers will remember the expert telling how cucumbers should be dealt with so that the liability of danger might be completely avoided. He explained that theyVrught to be peeled and cut in a certaiPUSy, and otherwise treated, and then buried in the household rubbish box." Burns was away from training for nine days, and'his friends suggested a postponement, but he would not agree to it. Now ho has hopes of being in good form by Monday. There has been something in the Sydney papers recently about Tommy Burns going to Paris to meet Joe Jeannette. This was referred to by the Referee early in January. A Paris promoter cabled Mr. Mcintosh, asking what Tommy Burns would accept. to go to "Gay Paree " and meet Sam McYea or Joo Jeannette, and after consulting the- ex-world's champion, Mr. Mcintosh replied, on December 31, 1909, that Tommy would accept £1500 as his end and transportation for two. Since then nothing further, has transpired, and if the Paris people really - have made up ' Foeir minds to pay Burns as he desires, Tommy has heard ■nothing whatever from them on -the subject; and it is questionable whether he could make the trip now, as other arrangements, effected when that long silence was •taken to mean "nothing doing," must bo attended to.
