CYCLING.
A largely-attended run of the Onehunga Cycling Touring Club was held yesterday, under the guidance of Club Captain T. H. Pardington. Another run has been fixed for to-morrow, leaving the club rooms at 10 a.m.. Maurice ' Maeterlinck, the well-known poet, is a keen motor-cyclist, and makes many excursions from his home to the mountains, and along the Mediterranean. In a recent 'interview published in the London Daily Mail, he is quoted as saying: "Some people laugh at me—a poet on a i motor-cycle! They think it incongruous. But consider how much mors convenient it is 1- than a motor-car. You are near the road, "you see Till that there is to be seen. You can go along little paths, delightful, quiet, •woodways where no motor can pass." Walter Rutt. has been placed on the "Ersartz Reserve" by the German military authorities, which means that he will be free to come and go when he pleases. In case of war. however, he must at once present himself to the military post nearest his place of residence. This action of the authorities will mean a great deal for. Rutt, as he may now ride upon any of the Gorman tracks without feTr of arrest. So popuI lar did he become . in the Fatherland after winning the Berlin six days' race that even the £10 fine was remitted. . An annual competition. conducted bv Hie Century Road Club of America, which offers prizes for the greatest number of centuries riflden during the year, and the largest aggregate mileaee covered, was won by two riders. E. K. Fray so covered 123 centuries, ■ with n total distance of 19.475 miles; while -T. "W. Hedden, with but 88 centuries, covered the enormous distances of 24.120 miles in ' the year. This is the third time in succession he has won the mileage competition. his aetrregat~ for the three years be in"' 67.882 miles.
