BOROUGH COUNCILS.

The Grey Lynn Borough Council met last evening, there being present: The Mayor (Mr. W.J. Holdsworth), Messrs. J. A. Warnock. G. Baildon, W. Donald, G. J. Garland, C. Norgrove, T. L. Thompson, and W. L. Rowland. ; . • A deputation consisting of Messrs. J. M. Thomson and Brown waited upon the Council in regard to the filling in that is being curried out in front of the Grey Lynn Bowling Club's green, and expressed the hope that the Council would build a concrete re-taining-wall. Tho matter was referred to
the engineer. •' A letter was received from Mr. H. Buckleton, manager of the Bank of New Zealand, in regard to the roading of the Surrey Hills Estate. In reference to a remark in a letter from the Council regarding a question of a shortage of funds for certain streets, the letter stated that the question of \funds was not a matter that concerned tho 'bank, and that the latter expected the agreement made by the Council to be carried out. If there was likely to be a shortage of funds he suggested that all the rates collected from > the Surrey Hills Estate bo applied to the road works. Tho letter was referred to the Finance and Legal Committee. Messrs. Thompson, Rowland, Garland, and the Mayor wero appointed a deputation to' wait upon the Tramway Company, and urge for a concession in the matter of fares to residents of Richmond. A petition was received from Mr. W. Brinsden and 104 other residents in the vicinity Sussex-street, asking that a bridge be constructed across the gully in that street. The matter was referred to the Streets Committee, tho engineer to report. \ ; .It was stated that, as already notified, the water supplies of consumers , whose rates are in arrear will be cut off after to-' day,' unless the rates are paid.
MOUNT EDEN. Tho Mount Eden Borough Council met last evening. The Deputy-Mayor (Mr. O. J. Tunks) presided, and there were also present Messrs. C. Hudson, B. Grayson, J. P. Hooton, E. Potter, H. H. Seabrook, D. Meikle, W. Woolley, S. G. Burns, E. Yates, and J. Davis
y The treasurer's report for the period ending March 5 showed that tho general account was in debit £I+3o os. lid, the trust account £11 Is o|d. The water account was in credit £316 8s 7d, leaving the district finance in debit £1124 12s 7d. With the special loan account tho total overdraft was £2424 12s 7d.
ONEHUNGA. A special meeting of the Onchunga Borough . Council was held last evening, when there were present: Messrs. John Rowe (Mayor), W. Colledgc, C. A. Osborne, J. Stoupe, A. S. Holmes, H. M. Johnston, H. T. Horn, I. Lomas, and H. A. Yockney (town clerk). On the motion of the Mayor, it was resolved to adopt, a resolution .by special order, levying a rate of 5-16t! in the £ on all the ratable property in the borough to nrovide interest and sinking fund on an additional waterworks extension loan of £550. Recently an application was received from an Auckland firm for a permit to establish an abattoir in Lower Alfred-street, Onchunga. Last night Mr. John Stoupe presented a petition signed by over 100 ratepayers and residents in or around the vicinity protesting against tho establishment of the works. A short discussion ensued, after which it was unanimously decided not to entertain the request for a permit for the abattoir, : and to inform the applicant to that effect.
