TRANS-ANDINE RAILWAY.
VALPARAISO TO BUENOS AIRES. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— ;; (Received November 29, 10 p.m.) Buenos Aires, November 29. The last section of the Trans-Andine railway tunnel, -3280 yds in length, has been completed, and the Chilian 1 and Argentine sections of the railway have now been joined.
Writing of the Trans-Andine railway an engineering ; paper states:—"A' feature of this line is a spiral tunnel made for the purpose of carrying the railway through the summit on the Andes range. It will have a very steep gradient, viz., 1 in 12£, and traffic will be worked on the Abt rack system. To ensure* additional security the rack will be trebled. > The distance covered by the tunnel will be about five miles, but its actual length will be nearly double." Now that this great; undertaking has been completed one will be able to travel 1 from Valparaiso to Buenos AyreS in about 35 hours.
