BASKETBALL.

The closing match of the basketball season was played at Northcote on Saturday afternoon, between teams representing the Edsnvale Presbyterian Church (Miss Knight, captain) and the Northcote Presbyterian Church (Miss L. Tremaiu, captain). The weather conditions were all that could be desired, and the game proved a very good contest, resulting in a victory for the former team. The game of basketball has been enthusiastically taken up by the young ladies of the Presbyterian churches thia year, and the season has been a very enjoyable and successful one. During the afternoon tea was served by the Northcote plavers.

THAMES VALLEY CLUB.

Paeroa, Saturday, The Thames Valley Polo Club held its official opening this afternoon at Messrs. Hubbard Brothers' farni at Komata, when a game was played with a team from Hamilton, the visitors winning by six goals to one. Messrs. W. McNicol and Innes Taylor referred. Several scratch games were- also played during the afternoon. There was a largo attendance of visitors, including several ladies, and afternoon tea was dispensed by the lady friends of the- members of the club.
