[by TELEGBAPH.-vpRESS association.] Cbristchtxrch, Friday.,At a general meeting of the Canterbury, branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants the following motion was carried :— This meeting regrets that artisans and others are being dismissed from Government workhops, thereby causing a large amount of valuable machinery to lie practically idle, while at the same time work which would employ both the said .machinery and the employees whose services have been dispensed with has been let to private firms. This meeting further considers that the Canterbury members of Parliament should , urge ; upon the Government.the necessity for putting work-in• hand which would provide employment for those being discharged*"-.... ..
