ILLEGALLY IMPOUNDED.

[BY telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Paeboa, Friday. At the Magistrate's Court last night the case was concluded in which Mrs. P. Treanor sued the ranger, Joseph Martin, for £3 10s damages for illegal impounding of . 14. milking cows. . Mr. Moresby appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Mueller for the defendant. From the evidence it appeared that the ranger and the constable one night seized the animals, which were straying, locked them up in the county yard until the morning, and then took them to the pound. At the pound office the ranger got the keys from the poundkeeper and put the animals in the •. pound. The ranger then wrote a rough description of the animals on a piece of paper, arid from that subsequently entered up the pound book. The magistrate decided that the animals had been illegally impounded, as the ranger had not given to the' poundkeeper a proper description in writing of the animals. The .damages claimed were excessive, but 10s damages would be allowed, together with the 9s pound fees paid, and costs, £1 10s. In the case against Mrs. Treanor of allowing cattle to wander, she pleaded guilty, and was fined 20s, with costs £1 Bs. •'
