Melbourne, November 13. Tub Federal House of Representatives, after, stormy protests on the part of the Opposition. against the application of the closure, , agreed by 39 votes to 27 to the third reading of the Finance Bill, and adjourned till Tuesday.

The Legislative Assembly of New South Wales, by a two to one majority, decided to increase the payment of members.
INCREASING POPULATION.
Sydney, November 13.
. During the past three months the population ! 'of New South Wales' has increased by 12,696, the largest quarterly increase for many years. The number of births for the quarter is a record.
A LONG CYCLE BIDE.
Sydney, November 13.
Francis Birtles finished his cycle ride from Fremantle to l Sydney in good trim. He covered 3056 miles in 45 days, .and on each of - the last 20 days did over 100 miles.- •-'•' "'■■•'.
