TRADE WITH CANADA.
NEED FOR TRANSPORT.
BY TELEGRAPH. CORRESPONDENT.]
Wellington, Sunday. . The Prime Minister, in his speech at the banquet tendered to him last night, stated that during the short time he was in America and Canada, on his return journey from England, he found that in both countries there was a great desire to trade with New Zealand. In Canada he found this feeling particularly strong, but the great drawback was the difficulty in regard to the means of. transport. The space for frozen goods on steamers running to Vancouver from Australia was, he said, all taken up by Australian goods. There were no products superior to those of New Zealand, and he considered that it would be desirable to arrange for "communication between Canada and New Zealand, with a view to taking advantage of the opportunities for trade between the two Dominions.
