SHIPOWNERS' RISKS.
*» POSITION OF COLONIAL OWNERS. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. Melbourne, September 4. The Secretary of the Steamship Owners' Association states regarding the Liverpool and London Steamship Protection Association's refusing renewals to Australian and New Zealand steamship companies, that the Australian tonnage excluded from the benefits of the association is approximately 390,000 tons, so that the liability transferred to Australian and New Zealand shipowners is £3,507,000. This, he adds, is a risk of such magnitude that it is regarded with the gravest concern by all interested. Unfortunately the tonnage ovened in Australia and New Zealand is too limited to enable the formation of a similar club here. The decision of the Liverpool and London Association has placed the members of the association here in an extremely serious position, and the whole matter will have to become the subject of most careful consideration.
