BOWLING.
The first contest for the silver-mounted bowls presented by Mr. Stephen Fortescue, ox-president of tho .Anglo-Colonial Bowling Club, for competition by colonial bowlers then- visiting -London, was to have taken place on the. Crystal Palace green last Saturday week. ', A rink of New Zealandets—all four from the Hawera Club, 'faranaki—•had ' started upon a series of matches in London just before tho mail left' for New Zealand. "This," writes a London scribe, "is the first time . a whole side from one colonial green has taken part in contests here. Tho New Zeaianders referred to are Messrs. W. Dingle, W.L. Luscombe, C. Curtis, anil Parkinson. They expressed .themselves delighted with the greens mostly, but complained bitterly about the weather, which, just then, was a long way behind the Dominion standard. ;■? '
A NEW r GREEN.
' The Dominion Road Bowling Club held a committee meeting on Thursday evening at the house of Dr. Moir. Gratifying reports were Submitted regarding the progress madoi towards the completion of the green. M. Gordon, vice-president and green superintendent, has been moat assiduous in his attention to the - details necessary _to bring the .green to a state of perfection. The fencing has now been completed, and preparations are in hand for the erection of a pavilion. The" committee are pushing matters ahead, and hopo to havo everything in 'readiness for starting play as early in the season as possible. The social functions organised by. Messrs. Macfarlane, Guthrie, and layers have beep very successful in bringing those, interested in the bowling club together, and -of . assisting the club financially, ', :Tn furtherance of this, a highclass concert will be given in the Roskill Hall on Tuesday next, and Mr. A. M- Bry-: don, At.he- president, trusts that- bowlers generally will roll up on that occasion. The committee hope that 60 names will be. on, the roll of membership by the opening day. j
BOWLERS' "REUNION."
The'president of "the Auckland Bowling Club, i Mr. Win. Elliot, tendered a smoke concert and reunion; to the members>of the Auckland Club V and s representatives of all City and suburban clubs, last evening, at the Tiffin. Mr. Elliot welcomed the guests in a heat speech, and spoke of the value of an : ante-season reunion. The evening was spent in a convivial manner, but only one toast other than the loyal toast, was honoured, 'that V being l '* The - President," proposed by Mis W. Coleman, and responded to by Mr. Elliot... The harmony 'of the evening was provided by the Lyric Quartette, Messrs. J. Ryan and i Aspinall, ' ,who contributed ■ vocal items, Messrs. Herbert, Bloy, Laver, and Fristrom, who -, rendered musical items, and Messrs,. F. E. 'Baumc, A. J. Black, and McElw&in, who; gav» recitations and mono-. logues. . A number of high-class musical numbers wore reproduced by Mr. S. Coldicutt's gramaphonc. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close by the singing of " Auld Lang. Sync.'-'
