ACTING-PRIME MINISTER.
MR. CARROLL'S BIRTHDAY.

Gisborne, Friday. The Hon. J. Carroll. Acting-Prime Ministor, is 52 years of age to-day. It is the first time for about 18 years that he has been able to spend his birthday in the district which he represents. Usually at this time of the year Parliament is in session, and a function is held amongst members in celebration of the occasion. Mr. Carroll received many hearty good wishes to-day from all parts of the Dominion. Mr. Carroll, accompanied by Mrs. Carroll and Mr. W. G. Gordon (private secretary), left for Wairoa at 11 o'clock this morning. They go as far as Wharerata to-night, and on to Morere to-morrow, when the opening ceremony of the Stewart's Crossing bridge will take place at 2.50 p.m. His Worship the Mayor of Gisborne and the Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Lysnar) will be present.
