POLICE COURT NEWS.
ALLEGED THEFT.
Three , young men, Charles Thomas, Bert Homan, and James Johnston, appeared before Mr. C. C. Kettle, S.M., at the Police Court yesterday on charges of on August 16 stealing a number of ferry tickets, of the value of £4 6s 2d, the property of the Devonport Ferry Company, stealing an oilskin valued at 15s belonging to Walter Yorke, and another oilskin of the value of 15s the property of Edward Jackson. Mr. Hackett appeared for Homan, and Mr. Allan Moody for Johnston. On the application of the police, the accused were remanded till Monday, bail being allowed each in one surety of £20, or two of £10, on each charge. DRUNKENNESS. Michael Butler, for insobriety, was convicted and discharged; William Stewart was made the subject of a prohibition order for 12 months; Edwin John Shepherd was remanded for a week for medical treatment; Patrick Dowling, who had come to town from Hamilton with gold in his pocket and spent it in the hotels, was mulcted in ss, and costs; John Fletcher had his bail estreated through not putting in an appearance; and Andrew Kelly, a man with a long record, was fined* 20s, in default 48 hours, for drunkenness, and received 14 days' imprisonment at Mount Eden for obscene language. He also had a. prohibition order issued against him for 12 month's.
MAINTENANCE. William Osborne, for disobeying an order for the maintenance of an illegitimate child, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Robert Gibb, for disobeying an order for the maintenance of his wife, was fined £1, and costs. Daniel O'Sullivan, for disobedience to two orders for the maintenance of his children, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on each charge, the warrant to be suspended for 14 days, in order to enable him to got work to maintain his wife and children; if he did not try to get work or took drink the , warrant to be put into immediate execution.* John Burrows was ordered to pay 10s each per week for the maintenance of his four children.
Walter George Howard was ordered, by consent, to pay 7s : 6d per week towards the maintenance of his child.
SUMMARY SEPARATION.
An order for summary separation was made in the case of Lena Mary Allen v. Alfred James Allen, the wife to have the custody of the children, and the defendant to pay 15s per week towards, her maintenance, y
