AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE.
THE DREADNOUGHT OFFER. By Telegraph.—Press Association.— Copyright.
" London, August 4. Some English newspapers are discussing Australia's offer of a Dreadnought as ' though the Commonwealth desired that the battleship should be restricted to Australian waters, and used independently of such general Imperial measures for the defence of the Australian coast as the authorities may advise.
Another newspaper error which led to misapprehension is that the Commonwealth desires to shorten the existing arrangements. In the face of this Colonel Foxton, Australia's delegate to the Defence Conference, found it necessary to make it known that there was no desire to interfere in any way with Admiralty arrangements.
