■STRONG DABS OF.GOLD. The following telegram was received by the secretary of the Royal Oak Gold Mining Company from the mine manager yesterday afternoon :—" Broke down reef to-day. Stioup dabs of gold in stone. More quarts to break down yet," MONTH OHRISTO. A company under the name of the Monte Ohristo Gold Mining Company was registered yesterday; to work 20 ; acres on the Tokatea Range, Ooromandel, adjacent to the Tokatea and Royal Oak mines. The company has a capital of £5000, in 100,000 shares of Is each. Of these 100,000 •: shares the promoters receive 30,000 shares paid up to 6d each and £100 in cash: The remain- ; ing shares have been over-subscriL'cd at an application fee of 3d each. Dr. C. E. Player and Messrs.; R. H. Montgomery, H. Rostgard, R. Rankin, and H. Reimers have, been appointed directors, and Mr. .1. W. Nichol secretary. WAlllF EXTENDED. The manager of the Waihi Extended mine, AVaihi, reports that during tho -week ended August 3 .the No. 2 drive was extended 10ft and a crosscut, put into the western wall for 17ft. A little stone was met with, but nothing of importance. The crosscut will be advanced a few feet further before "resuming: driving; on the stone exposed in the level. "No. 5 winze has been : sunk to 10ft, the stone showing „the full !■ size of the winze, but being still of low grade. The la.M, reef cut in tins level is characteristic of ibo Four-in-Hand reef, and lias a width of 3ft, with good country on both fides, although no doubt cut too far south to carrv values. There will be something like 550ffc of backs on this reef to work upon when the .No. 5 level is finished. Work on the western side ot the mil hits also been chiefly confined to development work The manager is satisfied that he lias ' the foofcwall reef -of the Four-in-Hand reef in the "crosscut from tho bottom ,of the winze in No. 4 level. Tl > 6 roof is _ about 18in" wide aud carries gold. The sinking of the winze on the hangingwall reel' will now bo resumed, although at present, owing *<> the heavy rains, there is too, much water to work with comfort. The* hanging-all reef has averaged 3ft in width clown to Hi© ~6&f't level.

The leader is much split up and . looks poor. Mr. Kings well stated- that if this condition was removed his syndinalo were prepared to spend £35.000 in erecting a plant at Pacroa to treat the tailings, but if tho condition was not removed the plant would not bo so large. Tho condition had been. placed in the licenses at the request of tho Ohinemuri County Council some time ago.
