WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION. MARTHA LODE IMPROVING. [BY TELEGRAPH.— COKRESPONDfiNT.J Waihi, Thursday. The higher grade ore showing on the floo ■< of the north crosscut through the Martha reef at No. 5 level in the Waihi Grand Junction mino _ yesterday is now in evidence well up the face of the drive. The quartz is highly mineralised, and improved values may bo looked for in this section of the lode, THAMES DEEP-. LEVELS. -. AWAITING. GOVERNMENT ACTION. At a meeting of the Thames Deep Levels Committee, held on Tuesday last, it was Staled that development work in several of the mines affected was at a standstill, pending the receipt of regulations. The secretary of the committee, in accordance with instructions, at once despatched a telegram to the Hon. R. McKcnzie, Minister for Mines, pointing out the position and stating that several of the companies were unable to employ men profitably at present-. The Minister pent the following- telegram -in reply yesterday :--" Secretary. Thames Deep Levels Committee, Auckland. Replying to your wire of 3rd inst. Deep levels crosscut regulations and agreement are now before Crown law officers; will forward I copy as soon as they are ready.—(Signed) R. I McKeszie, Minister for Mines."
