OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
A WOMAN'S LOSS.

GISBORXE, Wednesday. A fire broke out in .Mrs. Rcid's store at Tolago Bay, at about 5.50 this morning. It had a strong hold before it was discovered, and the building was burnt to the ground. Nothing was saved. The dwellinghouse only a few yards away would have been destroyed but for the efforts of a Milling bucket brigade. The cause of the tire is unknown.
The insurances are £600 on the stock in the Norwich Union office, and £250 on the building in the Liverpool, London, and Globe office.
Mrs. Reid had lately stocked up with winter goods, and the loss will be well over £200 above the insurance.
THE PALMERSTON BLAZE.

Palmerstov North, Wednesday.
The fire which broke out late last night in N. Malcolm's furnishing warehouse was got under about 1 a.m. The rear portion of the building was gutted, and the whole of the stock, valued at £4000, seriously damaged by . fire and water. The building belonged to Mr. Childs, of the Commercial Hotel, who had only recently acquired it. It was insured for £750 in the Alliance office, and the stock for £1850— each in the New Zealand, Norwich Union and Standard offices, and £350 in the Alliance.
A COTTAGE DESTROYED.

Ashburton, Wednesday.
A cottage owned and occupied by J. H. Stewart at Chertsey, with its contents, was in the temporary absence of the occupants totally destroyed by fire this morning. Only a few articles of clothing were saved. It is understood the house is insured in the Norwich Union office for £225.
