BENDIGO. The annual meeting of shareholders in the Bendigo Gold Mining Company was held ylsterlay at the office of the secretary (Mr. C. A. Stubbs). Mr. W. S. Whitley Pr Tno ed annual report, which was adopted stated that on April 13 of last year the company commenced operations in the lien digo mine at Karangahake.. After doing a considerable amount of driving and surface prospecting without meeting with ■encouraging results, it was decided to abandon the Karangahake property■and take, over property of 90 acres situated at Waiorongomai then held by Mr. T. Gavin, who was to receive 30,000 shares paid to M in the Bendigo Gold Mining Company, Limited, as payment for the ground. Sine* working on the Waiorongomai ground, with Mr. Gavin as manager, the company had met with very encouraging prospects. The- Silver King reef had opened out to a large, well-defined lode, carrying good values the whole of the distance driven. The directors had two trial parcels of ore sent to the Thames for treatment from this reef, one parcel of about fave tons, a fair average of the general quartz, and one-ton parcel from the most mineralised portion of the reef, giving a result ot £17 18s 6d for the two lots. The one-ton parcel proved to be about 10s per ton of more value than the five-ton parcel; but the extraction was only about 85 per cent., while in the five-ton lot the extraction was about 90 per cent. Mr. Coot considered that there would bo no difficulty in treating the Bendigo ore by the battery and cyanide process, and tho directors advised that every effort be made, to get a plant erected on the ground, as they considered the reef sufficiently opened up to guarantee the erection of a plant to treat at least 200 tons per week. By tho treatment of those parcels it had proved beyond a doubt that the company had a largo payable lodo in the Silver King reef. There wore also several other large ore bodies carrying gold on the property. Tho ore was worth about £3 per ton, and should ho mined and treated for £1 10s per ton. Tho* balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £78 3s Id. This was also adopted, and Mr. A. Wright, retiring director, and Mr. A. J. Denniston, retiring auditor, were reelected. KARANGAHAKE. The manager of the Karangahake mine telegraphed yesterday afternoon, stating that the new reef in the drive going north-east was looking well, and that, tho ore was first-class, giving splendid prospects in the dish. Samples of the quartz broken from this reef wore on view at the secretary's office yesterday. NOTES. In the "Rising Sun mine, Otoharoa, the low level is now in 83ft 6in, and the country is a little better for working. The extraordinary meeting of shareholders in tho New Occidental Gold Mining Company, called for yesterday to consider the position of the company, lapsed for want. of a quorum, and was adjourned for a week.

Tlio manager of the Dreadnought mine, Neavesville, reports that in the drive the country is a mild andesite, containing minerals, and laced with jasper-coloured veins. It is now in 157 ft. This leaves another 30ft to be driven to get beneath Clarkson's shaft.

The manager of the Phoenix mine, Neavesville, reports that he has done some dish work to the east of Clarkson's shaft, and can get a little free gold in the soil. He thinks that there must be a long stretch of this lode in the Phoenix ground, and advocates putting a crosscut in about, 300 yds east of the Dreadnought crosscut. This ore body has not, he says, been tapped east of Clarkson's shaft.

The manager of the Mountain King mine, Kuaotunu, reports that ho has resumed operations in the north face, and has passed through the break. Nice firm sandstone has been met again, everything indicating that the reef is close at hand, as there are several leaders making their appearance in the face, and an increased flow of water. An improvement has taken place in tho rise, as tho reef has increased in size, and is showing gold more fcely. In the drive south the roof when broken down to the present face is a nice compact body of ore, showing colours of gold. (As was reported in yesterday's HERALD, thereof going north has been picked up since this report was written.)

Tho manager of tlio New Waitaia mine (Kuaotuuu) reports that lie started to sink in the floor of No. 4- level, and after stripping (lie reef for a couple of feet, broke it. down. It proved to bo lft wide, composed of clean, hard stone, and carrying nice gold. Some of it is almost good enough to class as picked stone, whilst, colours and dabs can be seen in nearly all of it. His intention is to sink a few feet, and then drive the intermediate level ahead, as it is within 70ft of this point, and colours of gold can be seen in tho stone there now. The face at No. 3 level has improved in appearance lately. At present tho reef is 6in wide, carrying solid stone, with the exception of a band of dark country about 9in wide lying on the hangingwall of roof.
