MASTER GROCERS.
'- FIRST ANNUAL DINNER. "' The first annual dinner of the Auckland Master Grocers' Association was held , at " The Tiffin" last night, when between 80 and v9O members and guests assembled; The wholesale trade was well ; represented. The*. president of the' association' (Mr., A. W. Page) took the ', chair, and opened the toast,list with "The King." He next submitted " Our ; Guests," concluding a neat speech with a suggestion that the trade should continue to regard as their motto, " Faith, hope, and work." (Laughter). „ ' 1: Messrs. Edward Morton and T. Empson responded. I Mr. A. G. Entrican proposed "Prosperity to the Trade and Master Grocers' Association." 5 ;„ He; was proud to be connected with the trade, and thought the grocers and storekeepers had done more to colonise the Dominion than any other branch of industry had. v (Applause.) ' 'Mr. J. Henderson responded. Mr. G. R. Hutchinson proposed " Wholesale Merchants," and Messrs. A. Witham, J. S. Roberts, Tucker, and Hunt responded. . • Mr. W- G. Hutchinson submitted " Retired Members of the Trade," coupled with the names of Messrs. Francis Powell and Geo. Moody, sen. Mr. Moody responded, and apologised for the absence, of Mr. F. Powell, who had met with a slight accident. „ _ ' ; Mr. Geo. Gore proposed "The Hosts." which was replied to by Mr. J. Herrick. " The Press" was also honoured. Besides several enjoyable orchestral items, songs were contributed by Messrs. J. Worrall, Ferriday, Pierce, S. J. Harbutt, recitations by Mr. A. " McElwain, and a reading by Mr*. Townsend.
