POLICE COURT NEWS.
A DESERTER. At the Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. W. Morgan and C. Murdoch, justices of the peace, a man named Carl Abramson was charged with having deserted fron% the barque Joseph Craig. The sub-inspector stated that accused deserted at Whakapirau, and had put the captain to considerable inconvenience and expense in replacing him, The ship had now gone away. Accused was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment, and ordered to pay Court costs. ALLEGED MISAPPROPRIATION. A young man named Joseph Angrove, of respectable'appearance, was charged on three separate informations with having failed to account for various small sums Of money, totalling 8s 4d, to George Andrews. The case was adjourned until Monday next, bail being allowed in one surety of £10. '.'... MISCELLANEOUS. Ona first offending inebriate was convicted and fined ss, in default 24 hours' imprisonment, and two others, who did not appear, forfeited the amount of their bail. John Bewick, who pleaded guilty to his second offence for drunkenness, was fined S2, in default one month's imprisonment. Edmund Storey and Richard Bryant, two prohibited persons, were charged with drunkenness and with having obtained liquor during the currency of a prohibition order. The cases were adjourned until Friday. /.
A number of maintenance cases were adjourned until Tuesday next.
