London, March 5. Several persons who were indicted at the Clare Assizes under the " Whiteboys Acts were acquitted.

Mr. Justice Wright commented on the widespread use of firearms,. and said that almost everybody, in one locality was armed.

The Earl of Crewe (Secretary for the Colonies) stated in the House of Lords that the Government was ' considering the best means of checking the practice in Ireland of carrying firearms; '.. ' ; '^. : -\ . ' ■
