MOUNT ALBERT ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Mount Albert Road Board was held on Tuesday evening, there being present: Messrs. M. J. Coylo (chairman), T. B. Clay, F. J. H. Ellisdon, J. R. Walters, and J. M. Stanton.

Traffic Bridge: The Minister for Railways wrote stating that the Department would not at present entertain the Board's proposal that an overhead traffic bridge be erected over the railway crossing on Gladstone Road, near tho Mount Albert station. Ho estimated the cost at about £4500.

Edcndale School: Mr. C. W. Harris attended to support the request of the school committee that certain paths in the vicinity of the Edcndale school be formed, tarred, and sanded. It was resolved that a deputation from the Board, consisting of Messrs. Clay, Coyle, and Ellisdon, meet tho committeo on tho school grounds on Friday next. ,-■ ' '~

Lamps: The Lighting Committee reported that they had allocated new lamps as follows:— Avenue, Royal Terrace, Paice Avenue, Cricket Avenue, Mount Albert Road near Domain Road and Walters' Road, and that probably New Bond-street. Spring-street, and corner of Norman and George Streets would also be included. The inspection .. of the district was not yet finished.

Kcnilworth Estate: The Board's engineer havinsr expressed himself satisfied with the reading of the Koi/ilworth Estate, it was stated that the dedication deed had been signed by the Board. General approval was expressed regarding the manner in which the. Board's new regulations had Ix-en carried out, Mr. Clay stating that the roads were an example to other property owners in the district. .-. -

Fire Brigade: Messrs. Coyle, and Stanton reported that they had met the fire brigade in committee, and that matters generally .were most satisfactory. The brigade's application for an addition to the station was agreed to on the terms proposed, viz,, the Board to find tho materials and the brigado members to do tho work. This addition will provide an extra storey over the present building,. thereby giving double tho existing space. Tho tarring and sanding of the footpath in front of the station was also agreed to on . the same terms. An account of £3 3s for attendance at three fires during the past month was passed. for payment. .

Institute: A letter was received from Mr. A Tonson Garlick asking for tho Board's support regarding a proposal to establish an institute near the Mount Albert station, opposite Hunt's store, on lines similar to the Leys Institute. After considerable discussion it was decided that a conference -in committee be held between the promoters and the Board members on the 15th inst. Water Supply: The average daily consumption of water per head was stated to be well over 30 gallons, and it was agreed that this was an unreasonably large amount. Instructions were given that any person or persons found'using hose without a meter supply, or anyone improperly increasing their consumption by using domestic supplies for 'pardon purposes, should be proceeded against at once. Government Subsidy: The clerk reported that £238 14s 5d had been received on account of Government subsidy, leaving £79 lis' 5d still to come for tho financial year ending March 31. This amount is nearly £107 under what it would have been had the Government paid on the usual basis. Finance: Credit balances were reported as follows —General account, £136 lis 6d; special rates account, £1489 3s 6d. The year should, therefore, end with all accounts in credit. Accounts totalling £132 8s Id wore passed for payment.
