WAITEMATA CLUB'S GALA. Mr. L. G. McCarthy -who is leaving for Sydney on Monday, will be tendered a farewell by the members of the Waitemata Swimming Club . this evening in the Labour Hall, . Swanson-street. He _ holds the position .of club captain, member of committee, and delegate to tho 'Auckland contre N.Z.A.S.A. The Waitemata Club will hold the next carnival on Friday, January. 15. , The 100 yds and 440 yds club championships will be decided at this carnival, and the mile club championship at the following carnival. The winner on aggregate points will be sent to represent the Waitemata Club at the New Zealand championships, to be held in Timaru on February 11 and 13. Strong efforts are being made to have the mile and water polo New Zealand championships decided in the tepid bath at Christchurch at about the same date. The following is tho programme of events of the third carnival. Entries will be received by the hon. secretary on Saturday, January 9:—Noviice handicap, 50yds; electric handicap, 50yds; New Year handicap,72yds; ladies' handicap, 36yds; schoolboys' race, under 14 years, 36yds; boys' handicap, 17 years and under, 50yds; committeemen's handicap, 100 yds; relay race, open to teams of five from all bona-fide athletic clubs, trophies to winning team, entry 5s per team; club championships, 100 yds and 440 yds (particulars to be obtained from the hon. secretary) ; Consolation prize, two guineas; novelty events, post entries. NOTES. Mr. W. K. Duncan is now inter-club handicapper for Canterbury centre. Mr. G. L. Bull, of Christchurch, who has been working in the Auckland province since the last New Zealand championships, returned to Christchurch on December 21.
