The entertainment consisted of songs, recitations, musical' sketches, drills, plantation melodies, and a Maori haka, in which the youthful warriors acquitted themselves splendidly. The net proceeds, amounting to between £5 and £6, will be. devoted to the improvement of the school grounds, ■" ';/- : WAIHI. ' ' : [BY TELEGRAPH. — correspondent.] Waihi, Monday. The anniversary services of the Waihi Baptist Sunday-school were celebrated yesterday, the congregations being .large throughout the day. The morning service was conducted by the Key. Spottiswood, that in the afternoon by Mr. Wesley Spragg (of Auckland), and in the evening the Rev. Spottiswood was the preacher. The singing bv the children y-as most cmditable, and solos were contributed at the afternoon and evening services, respectively by Miss Gibson and Mr. W. Powell. ; The choir, under the baton of Mr. Cutforth, assisted ' largely in the musical portion of the services. . ,

A general meeting of members' of the Wnihi Miners and Workers' Union was held on Saturday evening, Mr. A. Parry (vice-president) in the chair. . The question of paying the incoming president a salary was dismissed, and ordered to stand over for 12 months, and it was decided to call for nominations for the office recently vacated by Mr. H. T. Armstrong. It was decided to take a ballot on the question* of the federation of the miners' unions of the Dominion on the date to be fixed for the election of the new .president. A ballot was taken for the election of two members on the Management Committee, caused by the resignations of Messrs.'Moloney and Hear ley, and Messrs. A. Williams and T. Franklin were elected. The question of the annual sports gathering was mentioned, and it was" a.greed that the Management Committee be the Sports Committee with power to add to their number. _ The following were added to the committee : —Messrs. Nowth, Twohey, Franklin, & Dye, W. A. Williams, Coursine, H. T. Armstrong, Jones, Blair, and Gaynor.
