A TREASURER'S THEFT.
LIVINGSTONE SENTENCED. By Telfesraph.~Preßs Association.— (Received October 7, 19 p.m.) Sydney, October 7. Montague Livingstone, late treasurer at Her Majesty's Theatre, who pleaded guilty yesterday to stealing £103 19s 6d, the property of Mr. J. C. Williamson, was today sentenced to three years and six months' imprisonment with hard labour. The sentence was afterwards reduced to two years, on the strength of sureties for the restitution of £500 of Mr. Williamson's missing money. Livingstone began ins career • with Messrs. Williamson long ago as an office boy in Her Majesty's Theatre, Melbourne. About two years ago he was appointed to Her Majesty's Theatre, Sydney. He was only 28, and was jotting a salary of £312 a year, not counting bonuses, and had exceedingly bright prospects. He. was only married 15 months ago, and is said to have been a, man of steady habits, who neither gambled nor speculated.
