UNSUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. (Received September 11, 10 p.m.) London, September 11. The joint conference of master cot-ton-spinners and employees at Manchester failed to arrive at a settlement of the matters in dispute.
Efforts are afoot to secure a further conference.
Tho master cotton-spinnors docidod, owing to tho dulucss of trade, to inako a general reduction of 5 per cent, in the wages of operatives. The employees arc strenuously opposing the reduction, and it is feared, if the conference fails, that tho trade will be involved in one of tho most serious conflicts of its history. < s
