LEPERS ON QUAIL ISLAND.
A THIRD PATIENT. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] j Chrlstchurch, Friday. The North Island Maori who i» to be detained at Quail Island quarantine station on account of being afflicted with leprosy, i was brought from Wellington by the Government steamer Hinemoa, which arrived at Lyttelton about noon to-day. He was under the care of Dr. Pomare and Inspector Piikahika, of the Health Department. The steamer was met on arrival by Dr. C. H. Upham, port health officer, and the patient was taken early in the afternoon to Quail Island, where a cottage similar to those occupied by the other patients has been erected for his accommodation. There j are now three leproey patients on the ! island, the other two being a European who was sent there from Christchurch last ' year, and a young Maori from I the North Island, who was segre- ! gated in November last. The latter have both improved in health since going to j Quail Inland. The young Maori, in par- ! ticular, has done so well that it is under- ! stood hopes are entertained of his re- ! covery.
