AN OPTIMISTIC MAYOR.
FUTURE OF CAMBRIDGE. [FROM our OWN correspondent.] ' Tub Mayor (Mr. W. F. Buekkmd) has ' addressed the ratepayers on the subject of ' the proposal to borrow £5000 for the erection .of a town hall, library, and municipal buildings. Ho said they had a beautiful natural site for eiich a building, while in regard to the financial aspect he quoted figures to show that the estimated revenue would exceed the cost of upkeep, interest and linking fund by £39. The town hall proposal was part of hie original .scheme for the betterment of the town. He predicted that in 15 yeans Cambridge would have four times its present population, and moved "That a poll of ratepayers be > taken on the litli inst." This was secondi ed by Mr. A.
