LICENSING COMMITTEE.
THI quarterly meeting of the Parnell Licensing Committee was held at the local Council Chambers yesterday. The members of the committee present were: Messrs. K. W. JJyer, S.M. (chairman), W. Thomas, J. McCabe, J. Lumpkin, A. Clements, W. Gavin. Licenses Transferred: A transfer of the license -of the Newmarket Hotel from Archelaus Thomas to Edward Yarde Buller was granted. A transfer of licenso was granted from Charles Honnigan to Nora Macdonald in resperit to the Star and Garter Hotel, Panmiiro. Charge Not Sustained: A police report to the effect that a man named Henry Warrell had complained that he had been assaulted by Peter Farquli&r, licensee of the Royal George Hotel, Newmarket, was investigated by the committee. The evidence went to show that the licensee had been insulted and struck by Warrell because liquor was refused him, and that the 'licensee struck or pushed him in return, more with the intention of getting him off the premises than assaulting him. The committee, through the chairman, while expressing the opinion that the licensee was not justified in striking, thought that he had received great provocation. "We do not think it necessary to say more than that," concluded the chairman. Mr, J. R. Reed appeared for the licensee.
