I Mountifield,-. secretary of the Northcote Eire Brigade, wrote stating that the following officers had been 1 appointed subject to the approval of the Council:—Captain, Mr.: H. iH. Lowe; lieutenant, Mr. R. H. Pettard; foreman, Mr. Alfred Parrish; and '; secretary, Mr. B. E. Mountifield. The Council agreed to confirm the appointments. The Eire Committee, brought under the notice of ; the Council various requirements of the brigade, in ad-, dition ;■■ to. the equipment . already provided." The committee was instructed to go into , the matter of cost and bring estimates and recommendations before the Council in committee next Tuesday. The offer of Mr. John Broady to donate a firebeir to the borough was accepted, and that gentleman ; was accorded : the thanks of . the Council. Mi'. Broady also stated his intention to present a gold medal for competition by the members of the brigade. The Auckland Harbour Board- intimated that the; Council's request for a subsidy towardstheNorthcoto'Fire Brigade had been held in abeyance, pending advice: from the Board's solicitors regarding the legality of such a payment. ;, The Council's shed will probably be utilised as a fire brigade station, the members having;volunteered to do the necessary, fitting up. A communication from the Birkenhead Borough Council asking the views of the Northcote Council as to whether they should utilise the city abattoirs, at Otahuhu, or safeguard' themselves in the event of the.boroughs of Devonport, Northcote, and Birkenhead and the : Waitemata County Council desiring to jointly establish abattoirs on the northern, side of the harbour, was referred to the Council in committee. " . . . Drainage: It was resolved to inform Mrs. M. E. Jackson that the Council had so fari not considered any drainage scheme for the '. district, and ; therefore had no' objection ■) to the construction of. a septic tank on her:pro-;; perty;, while her complaint regarding ad-; joining owners draining sewage into the creek at Stafford Road had been referred to the sanitary inspector.
