DEATH OF MR. SHIRLEY HILL.

A SUDDEN SEIZURE. ; ' A weia-kxowx Customhouse agent, in the person of Mr. W. Shirley Hill, of the firm of Hill and Co., Tyrone Buildings, died under very sudden, circumstances yesterday afternoon., He was presiding at a. meeting of/creditors in the office of Messrs. i Dufaur and Biss, solicitors, Sliortland- | street, at 2.45 p.m., when lie became faint. ' Dr. Clark was sent for, but though he ar- : lived promptly, he was , unable i- render any- assistance, and Mr. Hill passed away a few minutes later. The deceased, who was in his 74th year, and resided in Cleveland Road, Parnell, was a very old resident of Auckland, having arrived here with his father, the late Mr. Henry Hill, in the ship Cashmere, in 1853. He entered the Customs Department, and after -working his way up to the chief clerkship, a position which he retained for several years, he resigned, and commenced business for himself as a. Custenihotise agent, and at hi« death controlled one of the largest businesses of the kind in Auckland. Mr. Hill was a devoted churchman, and for. many years occupied a high -position in the parish of St. Sepulchre's. 'On changing his residence to Parnell, he took an active interest in the affairs of St. Mary's .Church, and up till a few weeks ago occupied the position of a vestryman. ; During the; past few months he had been attended by Dr. Dudley for a weak heart, and a certificate that death was due to that cause has been forthcoming, so that an inquest will not.' be necessary. .•''..'-"■'.' .-" ■■" : .
