A SEAMAN DROWNED

A rope was thrown in, and, although Clark had the utmost difficulty in keeping his companion afloat, he managed to tie it around him, and the man was hauled ashore in an unconscious condition.

Measures to restore animation were tried, but without avail, and when Dr. Parkes, who had been summoned, arrived he could Duly pronounce life extinct. Barnett, who was 48 years of age. was born in London, and worked on the local coastal vessels for several years, lust sewing on the Ngapuhi, from which he was dischar-ed on July 23. Since then he had been boarding at the Sailors' Home. An inquest will be held.
