RAILWAY ACCIDENT.
GANGER RUN DOWN A'i PENROSE. Ax accident occurred on the railway near Penrose yesterday morning, and as a result,' a ganger named Patrick Smith is lying in the Auckland District Hospital in a very serious condition. Smith, who resided at EUerelie, was walking on the track when he heard the whistle from the 7.40 a.m. train corning out of Penrose station. He etepped on the other track to avoid the train, but failed to notice an approaching engine, and was struck and thrown some distance.
The mishap was observed from the train, which speeaiiy pulled up. One of the passengers proved to fou a doctor from H.M.S. Encounter, and he attended to the injured man, who was rater conveyed t'j tboiiospiial. He was, however, quite conscious at m late hour last night.
