Wellington, Thursday. In the Supreme Court to-day, James Madder and Henry Mather were senienror on a charge of breaking and entering. Madder, who admitted- convictions at Oisborne, Wellington, and Christchurch, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, and declared to be an habitual criminal. Mather wis sentenced to three years* imprisonment. George Oram was charged with having burglariously broken and entered the shoo of Thomas Crouch, in Wellington, and stolen therefrom a large quantity of jewellery. After a lengthy hearing, accused was found not guilty. CHRISTCHURCH. [BY telegraph.—press association-.] Christchtrch, Thursday. The criminal sittings of the Supreme. Court were resumed before Mr. Justice Dennititou this morning. David Courtenay was charged with stealing from the person of Michael Ryan, at Riecarton, on November 6, 1907, a purse containing seven sovereigns, one ban sovereign, and a cheque for one guinea He was convicted and sentenced to three years' imprisonment, u run concurrently with a sentence of a <siniihir period he is (serving for assault and robbery. Beatrice Toofee, charged with causing actual bodily harm on May 30 to Alexander McNeil, by striking him on the head *a* acquitted. William"Preston and Alexander Gardner were convicted of the theft of £5, sentence being deferred till to-morrow.
