The 'Republican National Convention has nominated Mr. James S. Sherman, of Utica, New York, and a member of Congress, as a candidate for the Vice-Presidency of the United States. - Mr. Luke E. Wright (President of the United States Philippine Commission) has succeeded Mr. W. 11. Taft as Secretary for War. Throughout the sitting of the Republican Convention Mr. Taft and President Roosevelt sat at the end of a wire at White House listening to the speeches and sending sheaves of telegrams to their agents in Chicago.
