ANOTHER TOUR PROBABLE. {m- TKLKGRA'-'H.—OWX CORRESPONDENT.] % • Dpxkdin, Thursday. W. Johnston, the prominent All-Black professional, interviewed by a reporter today on his return home, said that he had signed on at. a big retainer to play for Y\ igan next, season, and that he will return to England early in September. Besides the retainer, he will receive 10s for a win and 5s for a loss, with two matches a week and he will be given employment at the. same wage as he would receive here. George ,Smith got £150 for 11 matches to play for Oldham, and Todd intends to sign on for £400 to captain Wigan next season. Wrig- j ley will also return to England 'in a few ! weeks to play for Runcorn, also at a retainer or £400, with work as a plumber at £2 12s a week. Johnston stated that the public here have ! not seen football yet, the amateur gamq not being in ir. with the Northern Union play. He did not want to see out-and-out professionalism here for a while, but players, . he considered, should be paid for the timet they lost. The Northern Union rules would be adopted here yet. There were two clubs in Auckland and two in Wellington prepared to take on these rules at a moment's notice. Another New Zealand tour to England is being talked of in the North, and Johnston said he would not be surprised to see another team leave here the season after next. "And you can rely on it being welcomed with open arms by the officials of the Northern Union," he added. The New South Wales team going Home this season were playing far 100 many matches, and he did not expect them to bo as successful as the. New Zealanders, who : played 35 matches ; against 45 proposed to be played by them.
