MALFORMED DEER,

Du.vicih.v. Wednesday. At a conference of deer-stalkers and. others interested to-day, Mr. R. Chisholm presiding, the question of malforms was discussed, and various remedies were suggested. The following resolution was eventually carried, "That it be a recommendation to the council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society that the matter of dealing with the Tapanui fallow deer be left to the Tapanui Deer-stalkers and Anglers' Society to suggest what steps are necessary also, that for red deer 2s 6d for hinds, 5s for weedy stags, 7s 6d for malforms, and 10s for malfonns on the outskirts of the herd bo paid."
A motion was carried that the Waitaki Acclimatisation Society be .asked to join with the Otago Society in efforts to improve the red deer herd, and to contribute pro rata according to their income from deer-stalking licenses towards the expense necessary to cull mall'orms and interior animals, and otherwise improve the herd. It was also resolved that culling old weedy hinds take place in September and October, the shooting of malforms and inferior stags to be done during January and February, and be renewed after the close of the stalking season.
