NEWFOUNDLAND FISHERIES
INTERPRETATION OF TREATY
By Telegraph.— Association.—Copyright.
' London, June 2. The Morning Post reports that the American Senate has adjourned without taking steps to submit to The Hague Conference for interpretation the treaty made with Canada in 181S regarding the fisheries question.
A question has now arisen relating to the renewal of the modus vivendi with Newfoundland. The Post trusts that Britain will not coerce, but will consult the colony, in accordance with the provisions of the General Arbitration Treaty with America made last month, the only thing necessary being a firm announcement that the fisheries during 1908 would be conducted under the Treaty of 1818, and the sending of a cruiser to enforce British regulations in British waters.
