London, June 2. The great Cunarder Mauretania, using only three screws, completed the "long course from New York in 116J: hours, beating the previous record by 4J hours.

The Mauretania has now satisfied the Government conditions, and the Canard Company will receive the subvention offered by the Government towards the cost of her construction.

The agreement between the British Government and the Cunard Company provided that the Mauretania and Lusitania, both. vessels of 32,500 tons, were to be, with all other Cunard liners, at the disposal of the Admiralty for lure or purchase whenever required, the British Government lending the company £2,600,000 to build the two large ships, and granting (hem a subsidy of £150,000 conditional upon a certain speed being maintained at sea.
