COMPENSATION QUESTION. By Telegraph Preas Association.—Copyright. London, June I. Mr. L. V. Harcouut (First Commissioner of Works), speaking on the Licensing Bill, said the Government was prepared to.consider any businesslike financial basis for the. payment of compensation. The principal points of Mr. Ascpiilh's Licensing Bill are :—Reduction of licenses by 30,000; no compensation after 14years for a license taken away ; no appeal to quarter sessions ; local option on new licenses ; justices may restrict Sunday opening, employment of barmaids, admission of children, and sale of drink on election days; public-houses outside London to be open only three hours on Sunday ; Bonafide travellers to <ro six miles; clubs to ho annually registered-and subject to police entry. ....
