THE MURITAI WRECK.

SALVAGE OPERATIONS. Particulars of the «alvng operations of the Northern Company's steamer Muritai. which was wrecked on the Hen and Chickens last week, were brought to town by the Clansman, from Whaiigarci, last night. The s.s. Coromandel returned to Whangarei from the wreck yesterday afternoon, and Captain George McLeod, t.ho master of the steamer, reported that the Muritai was lying in a pretty snug place, between two rocks forward, and with her keel resting on a small rock. There were about four ylnt.es dented on the port side, and about three on the starboard side of the steamer, and everything inside of the steamer was perfectly dry. A good deal of the gear on deck, and also the interior fittings of the steamer, were saved, and it is expected that the engines will bo also saved. •
