GALE AT CHRISTCHURCH.
SHIPPING DELAYED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchurcbt, Monday. A strong southerly gale, with heavy rain squalls, set in about eight o'clock on Saturday night and continued until yesterday morning, delaying shipping considerably. The tramp steamer Otterburn had a rough trip down from Wellington, and the Mararoa was about three! hours and a-half late in arriving at Lyttelton. The collier Whangape, which left Wellington at about four p.m. on Saturday, did not arrive at Lyttelton until nine o'clock last night. The Cygnet, laden with sheep from' Titirangi (Pelorons Sound), was due at nine o'clock yesterday morning, but did not arrive until 5.30 p.ni.
