The new Cunard liner Lusitania has steamed 627 knots in. the 24 hours on one day during her latest trip across the Atlantic. The Lusitania in her speed (vials did 26.7 knots, and in her first 1200-mile run a mean speed of 25.4 knots. The achievement reported in the cable works out at--26.33 knots. The Mauritania has exceeded even this splendid performance, attaining to 27.36 knots, and over a 1200 odd mile course a mean speed of 26.04 knots.
