FOUND DROWNED.
.. : v'vj:...;.~ V Tits body of a man was found floating, in the harbour at Devonport yesterday morning, near the wharf erected for the .'cable • steamer Iris. It was at first rumoured that •- it was that of the scow hand, Fred Smith, ' lost overboard in the collision between the steamer Wairuna and the scowj Moonah, but this' is unlikely since the' corpse, when found, was in such an advanced .state of decomposition as to be unrecognisable. It is understood, therefore, that it must have been in the water for some weeks. The body, which was removed to the morgue by . Constable Eccles, and awaits identification there, was that of a man sft 6in in height, with dark hair, and of strong build. The civ thing consisted of a black coat, dark tweed trousers,.unci a white soft shirt. Th« man wore no boots or socks. There were no tatoo marks on the skin. An inquest will be opened by Mr. (ires ha in, Coroner, at , two o'clock this afternoon, at Gleeson's • Bote!.
